Petrophaga lorioti - stone louse

The improbable career of a fictional bug.

First discovered by German comedian Loriot when he spoofed nature shows, the stone louse as it is also known has become a celebrity animal in Germany.

By 2013, several generations of medical students have studied its entry in  the clinical dictionary Pschyrembel, from German scientific publisher Walter de Gruyter.

There is no indication that medical care in the country has been negatively impacted by the creation of real memories of a false bug.

Mr. Loriot passed away in August 2011 and would certainly have smiled at the name Otacilia lorioti given by its German discoverer to a small spider first collected in 2008 at a tributary of the Mekong river in Laos.

The team officially named their new spider Otacilia lorioti in 2012.

If any of our readers see an opportunity for a small skit or video animation, run with it and let us know when you are done.
